Enter Ear
Visitors
About
Visitors represents a creative apex for Los Angeles-based artist Ian Hawk (Failings, Tecumseh), marking his most compelling work to date. This isn't merely an evolution of his sound, it's an arrival at a higher level of artistic expression. Across two sidelong compositions, Enter Ear crafts what can only be described as minimal maximalism: music that is simultaneously busy yet sparse, hypnotically looping yet urgently alive, meditative yet frenetic.
The album exists in healthy contradiction. These aren't tracks that follow conventional patterns of tension and release, instead, they create sustained states of tension that somehow never demand resolution. There's joy threaded through the intensity, but it's the kind of joy found in perpetual motion, in the act of elevating without arriving.
Drawing comparisons to Oren Ambarchi or The Necks, if reimagined by a hardcore band. Ian Hawk has created beds of looping, staccato lines that serve as both foundation and counterpoint for two of contemporary music's most exciting drummers: Greg Fox(Z’s, Guardian Alien, Liturgy) and LA luminary Mike Meanstreetz. The result is a dialogue between composition and spontaneity, structure and chaos, that feels both meticulously crafted and wildly improvisational.
This is music that demands attention. The extended format—two pieces at roughly 15 minutes each—allows these hypnotic patterns to fully develop, creating an overwhelming river of sound that transform with each listen. It's an album that resists easy categorization while remaining remarkably listenable, pulling the listener into its particular viewpoint.
BIO
Enter Ear is the collaborative project of Los Angeles-based artists Ian Hawk and Mike Meanstreetz, featuring Greg Fox. Emerging from the outer edges of drone, post-rock, and experimental sound, the trio blends textured synths, abstract rhythms, and immersive sonic layers into driving, hypnotic landscapes.
Ian Hawk is a musician and visual artist based in Los Angeles working within the worlds of post-rock and drone. Hawk has toured, recorded and released numerous records with Tecumseh, Failings, Amps for Christ, and more. His music has been released through Important Records, Beta-Lactam Ring Records, Consouling Records, and Debacle Records. He has toured extensively across the United States and Europe, developing a distinctive approach that bridges the gap between meditative drone and more urgent, physical forms of experimental music.
Mike Meanstreetz is a multimedia artist whose non-traditional craft seeds new genres while reaping the fallen fruit of old. Auditory, visible, tactile, and invisible rarely appear in the singular, most often materializing in a tangle of synaesthesia. He has performed and collaborated with Los Angeles Free Music Society, Anna Homler, Tatsuya Nakatani, Amps For Christ, Derek Monypeny, Sissy Spacek, Arrington de Dionyso, Martín Escalante, and GASP.
Greg Fox is a multi-instrumentalist, interdisciplinary artist, and teacher born and based in New York City. A versatile and prolific creative, Fox has toured, recorded and released with Liturgy, Guardian Alien, ZS, Ex Eye, Skeletons, Teeth Mountain, Dan Deacon, Colin Stetson, Ben Frost, and many more. His approach to percussion transcends genre, bringing both technical mastery and intuitive exploration to every collaboration.
Mixed by Billy Anderson who has engineered on some classics by Sleep, eyehategod, Jawbreaker and many more.
Mastered by acclaimed engineer Michael Rozon who has worked with Chelsea Wolfe, The Melvins, and Tom Waits.
